Type at the end of a sentence an open parenthesis and then the name of the author, the surname first and then initials.
(Stevenson R.L.
Check the date when the publication was published--in this instance, 2010. Add this after the name. It should look like this: (Stevenson R.L. 2010
If you have used a specific page or quotation, add the page number like this:
(Stevenson R.L. 2010, pg100)
The full reference should occur at the end of an essay in a section titled "References." Type or write the authors' surname and then his initials. So, in this case you will write: "Stevenson R.L."
Type an open parenthesis, add the year of publication, then close parenthesis. Forr example: (2010). At this point you will also need to add a comma after your closed parenthesis. You will normally find the publishing details of a book on the first page or two.
Type the title of the book in italics. Add a comma after the title. Check whether the book has an edition. If so, include the edition number in your citation.
Find the place in which the book was published. In this case it was published in Alberta, Canada. Add this to your citation and end with a period. If you are just citing the book as a reference and not directly quoting from it, your reference is now complete and should look like this:
Stevenson R. L. (2010) Treasure Island, Qualitas Publishing, Alberta, Canada.
Add page numbers if you are quoting from the book within your essay. Check the page you are quoting from and then add to the end of the reference, after a comma, the letters "pp" with a period after them. Like this: pp. 38.
