How to Decorate a Door for Oh! The Places You'll Go!

"Oh! The Places You'll Go!" was Dr. Seuss' last book before his death in 1991. It has become a beloved book, since it deals with the idea of a journey through life and the optimism and freedom of youth. The design of the book is also iconic, meaning that it can be easily replicated on a door. By painting the design and a few key quotes on a door, you can decorate the room of a child in a meaningful and attractive way.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a design from "Oh! The Places You'll Go!" This can be anything, although if you wish to write quotes from the book, it will need to include an area of light coloration.

    • 2

Draw the design onto the door using the pencil. It does not have to be perfectly in proportion, since Dr. Seuss books are more recognizable by color than design. Ensure you are happy with the design before continuing.

    • 3

Cover the handle and the hinges with masking tape, as well as all areas you do not wish to be covered in the lightest color. Paint the lightest color first in case you paint an area you did not mean to cover.

    • 4

Remove the masking tape once the paint has dried and repeat the process with the next lightest area of color. Repeat this until you have painted the whole design.

    • 5

Decide which quotes from the book you wish to write on the door, if any. Sketch them in pencil before painting them. Paint them using a thin paint brush and allow to dry. When the whole door is dry, paint on a varnish to hold the color and protect the paintwork.
