Despite his talent and dedication as a history teacher at a public school in Brooklyn, New York, Dan's addiction becomes a liability. He is arrested after getting into a confrontation with one of his students, Drey (Shareeka Epps), whom he had been mentoring and trying to help.
During his time in prison, Dan reflects on his life and the mistakes he made, including his drug use and his failure to fully commit to his relationship with Drey and his family. He undergoes rehabilitation and makes progress in overcoming his addiction, realizing the negative impact his actions had on his students and the people around him.
Although the movie ends with Dan being released from prison and possibly headed towards a more stable path, it leaves the audience with a sense of uncertainty about his future and whether he will be able to maintain his sobriety. The ending underscores the complex and challenging nature of addiction and its profound effects on individuals' lives and those connected to them.
