Instructions for Operating an eBook Reader

E-book readers are designed to allow book lovers to save multiple electronic books and access these books using the reading device. Most major booksellers offer e-book readers, such as Amazon's Kindle or Barnes & Noble's Nook. Several other brands exist, as well. Users are generally able to sort their bookshelves by author, genre and other distinguishing characteristics. Many mainstream print publishers offer their products as e-products to take advantage of customer bases that prefer digital reading.

Instructions

Download your e-book purchase. E-book retailers offer many formats of e-books designed to be used on varying e-book readers, and selections can be made wirelessly. Select the format that your reader operates, make your purchase and follow the site's directions for uploading the book to your reader. This most often involves clicking a download button or icon. You may be asked by some readers how you want to store the e-book, such as by genre or by author, etc.

Highlight the e-book of your choice on your reader's screen. You can usually do this on a touch screen, with arrow keys or by using small mouse-type devices and cursors. Select the e-book and hit continue or next, or the select key on your reader. This will bring up the title page or cover of your ebook.

    • 3

Read the e-book using the page-turning devices. On many e-book readers there will be a button along the side that is designed for your thumb. Slide your thumb along this button to turn the page. Other readers have small arrow buttons that facilitate page turning. Most readers have bookmarking and highlighting functions to mark important passages or to save places, as well.

Power down the e-book reader when finished reading. This will conserve battery life. Also recharge your device when not in use. Many e-book readers have power supply packs or docking stations for your PC.
