A spiritual journal is a good tool to use as you track your spiritual journey. Use your journal to record your progress as you grow spiritually, and include insights you have a long the way. You can do this through writing in your journal every day and including things such as daily accomplishments, daily affirmations and future spiritual goals. Writing your entries in the morning before you start your day can help you write with a less-distracted mind.
If you have trouble getting started with your daily writing, try using prompts to inspire you. Your prompts can be sentences you've written, inspiring quotes, spiritual poetry, thought-provoking photos or spiritual art. Their purpose is to inspire thoughts and feelings within you that bring out your spiritual side. Once prompted to write, you should be able to continue writing and more clearly express the thoughts in your mind.
A devotional journal focuses on your relationship with God and learning about that relationship and yourself as you write. Your journal can include numerous things, including daily thoughts, insights, notes related to Bible passages, formally written prayers, spiritual dreams, observations and thoughts from meditation. In a devotional journal, you should examine any thoughts related to your daily life and personal experiences only as they relate to your relationship with God.
Your spiritual journal doesn't have to contain words at all. You can express your thoughts solely through art and images. Let images from your thoughts, dreams and meditations be your inspiration. You also can create a spiritual travel journal to take with you as you travel for spiritual enlightenment. Use it to write down the insights you have as you travel. At the end of your trip, write about what you've learned. Your spiritual journal can even take the form of letters written to yourself or to others that discuss the progress of your spiritual journey.
