How to Remove Printing Press Ink

Printing press ink can be difficult to remove, but not impossible. Bleaching agents that will usually work on stray pen and marker stain will not work with extra-durable printing press ink. Printing ink may be impossible to remove from paper if the paper is of especially soft and porous stock. Various chemicals and tricks can remove printing press ink from both regular paper and linen.

Instructions

    • 1

If the stray printing ink is in paper, float amylacetate over the paper. Do so until the ink loosens. This will likely not work if the paper is very soft and porous.

    • 2

Brush the loosened ink off the paper with a sponge moistened with benzine. Wait for the paper to dry and it can be reused and printed on again.

    • 3

To remove ink stains from linen, hold the stained linen against steam. Use weak, diluted hydrochloric acid on the stain by applying it onto a stick and rubbing it gently on the stain. Wash the linen once the stain is out.
