Wash your hands with soap and water before handling your books.
Do not remove a book from the shelf by pulling on the headcap. Push the adjoining books on either side back slightly on the shelf, so you can grab the book you want by the middle of the spine.
Cradle the book in your hands or your lap while you are reading, so the spine of the book is supported on either side.
Do not place the book on a flat surface or force the covers open 180 degrees. If you must place it on a flat surface, use rolled up towels or another item to keep the front and back covers at an angle.
Place your bookshelf in a room that does receive direct sunlight. Do not place it against an outside wall or near a radiator or other heat source.
Place books vertically on the shelf so they stand upright at a 90 degree angle. Do not pack them too tightly or too loosely. If you do not have enough books to fill the self, use a book end to keep the books upright.
Place oversized books horizontally on the shelf. Do not stack more than two or three on top of one another. Use polyester felt pads between them to prevent damage.
