Outline your report before you begin. This is an important step. You'll use the outline later, when you prepare the visual elements of your presentation.
Prepare a standard book report formatted as instructed by your teacher. This may be Modern Language Association (MLA) or American Psychological Association (APA) style. Write the book report, indicating with a light mark as you go some of the material you might like to use as pull quotes when you prepare a visual presentation to go with your book. Pull quotes are one or two sentences you'll quote from your report in your visual presentation.
Use hand drawings or charts that illustrate particular elements of your report. These drawings or charts will be used in conjunction with the reading of your book report to enhance the presentation. Make sure you use graphic material sparingly, only to highlight important information in your book report. You don't want to overshadow your report by adding too much.
Consider using Microsoft PowerPoint if you have access to a laptop. PowerPoint is a multimedia tool that allows you to combine graphics, text and even sounds to give a multimedia, rich presentation. Use the pull quotes from your report in conjunction with graphical material to present a strong visual presentation with slide shows.
Use a chalkboard or dry erase board if one is available. This is a good way to add visual reinforcement to your book report as you read.
Be prepared. This is most important. Have your book report so well ingrained in your mind that you only need to glance at it as you read. Have your visual elements ready so you don't have to break the rhythm of the report when you need them. Good preparation and appropriate use of visual enhancements will leave a lasting impression on your audience.
