How Is a Book Report Done?

If you are taking an English, reading or writing class, you may be required to compose a report on assigned reading material. Book reports will tell the reader what the book is about, as well as the personal opinion of the writer. By analyzing elements of the story, such as characters, plot and theme you can compose an informative, quality book report.

Instructions

    • 1

Include the name of the book, the author, the genre and the number of pages in the opening paragraph of the book report.

    • 2

Give a description of the story's setting, main characters, plot and theme in the body of the book report.

    • 3

Add a paragraph or two after the body to specify your personal opinions on the book. Include your views on the writing itself and if you think the author did a good job telling the story and conveying the theme.

    • 4

Sum up your final thoughts and tell if you would recommend the book in your closing paragraph.
