Enter the author or editor's last name, and then enter in their first name. If multiple authors wrote the publication, cite them in the order that their names appear on the title page of the book. Ensure that only the first author is cited with his last name appearing first. For example, if there's only one author and his name is John Doe, then it should then appear as Doe, John. If there are multiple authors, then the names should appear as Doe, John and Jane Doe.
Enter the title of the book, with the first letter or each word capitalized. The entire title should be italicized. If you are citing an article, place the title in quotations instead of underlining it.
Write the city in which the book was published. Make sure this appears after the author's name and the name of the book or article. Place a colon at the end of the city. You can usually find the location of publication on the title page of a book. Skip this step if you are citing an article.
Cite the name of the book's publisher immediately after the city. It should be seen on the same page as the city of publication. For an article, cite the name of the magazine or journal in which it is published.
Write the year in which the book was published. It should be found on the same page as the publisher, and the city of publication. For an article, also note the date and month it was published, if that information is available. Insert a colon, then write the page numbers on which the article appears.
Write the type of material you're citing. Printed books, in particular, should be referred as Print. All together, a book citation should look like: Author. Title of Book. City of Publication: Publisher, Year. Type of Material. An article citation should look like: Author. Article Title. Name of Magazine Date of Publication: Page numbers. Type of Material.
Cite the author exactly like you would for a book. Enter the author or editor's last name, and then enter in their first name.
Write the title of the web page enclosed in quotation marks. The first letter of each word should be capitalized.
Enter in the title of the overall website where you accessed the publication.
Cite the version or edition of the publication as well.
Cite the publisher, editor or overall sponsor of the website that you're using to access the online publication. If you cannot find the publisher listed on the site, use "N.p." in its place.
Write the date in which the article you're citing was published. Write the day first, using numerals, then the month and finally the year, also in numerals. Write "n.d." if no date is available for the publication.
Write the word "Web." followed by the date in which you accessed the online publication. Altogether, your citation should appear as: Author. "Title of the Web Page." Title of the Overall Web Site. Version or Edition. Publisher or Sponsor, Date. Web. Date of Access.
