List only those references cited in your paper. Create a Works Cited page separate from your bibliography.
Enter references alphabetically. For a book with a single author, provide the author's last name followed by a comma and first name. End with a period. Enter the title of the book, ending with a period. Give the city of publication. Enter a colon, followed by the publisher's name, a comma and the publication year. Specify the type of medium the publication represents. Following examples provided by Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) provides, a single author book citation will read, "Lamott, Anne. bird by bird. New York: Anchor Books, 1995. Print."
Reference information cited from an article in an encyclopedia or dictionary. Use MLA format for other references, including placing the article title in quotation marks with a period inside the closing quotation mark. Omit the location, name of the publisher, and publication date. Dictionaries or encyclopedias with alphabetical order do not include volume or page numbers, according to OWL. For example, "Ideology." The American Heritage Dictionary. 3rd ed. 1997. Print." Do not include quotation marks.
