Create a black backdrop for the shoot. Tack the sheet to your plywood board. Stand the plywood board vertically behind a table, and push the table against the wall. Drape the sheet so it covers the table and the board.
Place the pop-up book on the work surface in front of the back board. Place some tape marks on the black fabric to mark the position of the top corners of the book. This way, if you pick the book up you will be able to put it back in exactly the same position.
Stand the tripod in front of the book, just a few feet away. Make the tripod as tall as you can, and point it down toward the book. Place the camera on the tripod and frame the shot. Zoom in so the book fills the entire frame.
Have an assistant look in the camera while you flip the pages and activate the pop-up mechanisms. You want as little of your hands in the frame as possible. Practice moving the pages with minimal skin in frame. If you can't make this work, try the next step.
Tie or tape pieces of fishing line or transparent thread to the sides of the book, one page at a time. Practice pulling the page over in a single, fluid motion so that the page appears to open on its own.
Begin filming. Leave the cover of the book closed for 5 to 10 seconds. Turn the page. Repeat until you have filmed all of the pages of the book. If you are using the fishing line method, it may help to turn off the camera and remove the pieces of tape between takes.
Transfer the video to your video editing software of choice. For more information on this step, consult the manual on your camera and the instructions for your video editing software.
Watch the video and trim where necessary. Spending too long on a more dull page may make the video drag on, and may cause you to lose some viewers. Spend some time tweaking the video, speeding up where necessary and editing it. Follow the instructions for your video editing software for more information on how to make the video. Consult friends for more information on how the video looks.
Add music that matches the tone of the book. For example, if the book is a lighthearted and simple story, choose a song that has a similarly light and upbeat sound. A book with darker themes would do well with a soundtrack with more bass.
Show the video to friends and ask for feedback. Make changes if necessary.
