Yearling Books does not accept unsolicited submissions. This means that you must first submit your manuscript to an agent. Once an agent agrees to represent you, she may submit your manuscript to Yearling Books on your behalf. Alternatively, if you speak to an editor for Yearling Books at a writer's conference or other event and she requests your manuscript, you may submit it directly to her.
Manuscripts must be written in English. They should be double-spaced on one side of 8 1/2" x 11" white paper. Pages should be numbered consecutively, and the title of the manuscript should also appear on each page. Submit manuscripts in padded envelopes.
Yearling Books accepts fiction manuscripts suitable for young adult readers. Manuscripts must take place in contemporary settings and feature characters and situations of interest to readers aged 12 through 18.
Artists interested in submitting illustrations for publication may send samples of their artwork on postcards. Samples must be sent through postal mail. E-mail submissions are deleted unread.
