How to Fill Out a 1099 - Misc in Microsoft Word

Form 1099 - MISC is the income tax document that is used by independent contractors and freelancers who do not have taxes withheld from their income. It is different from the 1040 IRS form used by employees who have taxes automatically deducted from their paychecks. A 1099 form is available for download in PDF document format from the IRS for free. Alternatively, many companies and individuals fill out the 1099 in Microsoft Word format. The 1099 form is not available for free in Word format, but you can acquire a valid version that complies with IRS formatting guidelines.
