Choose your book size. There is some debate over which size is most legible. Some ebook publishers think a letter page-sized book works well, while others consider about half that size to be the better option. Some ebook writers will also argue that choosing landscape orientation over portrait fits horizontal computer screens better. You may wish to check the Resources below before setting your size to the default Letter option.
Create a cover by selecting the Type Tool (T) from the Toolbar, and create a box on the page. Add the title of your book and its authors. You can also add a photo to the background by navigating to "File," then "Place".
Create a new set of master pages on the stage by navigating to the Pages button of the toolbar on the right side of the screen. Select the "Add a New Page" button at the bottom of the box to create a double-truck set of pages next to the "A Master." Master Pages will allow you to create a template for subsequent pages.
Add the title of your book as a header on each side. Add page numbers by creating a box with the Type Tool by navigating to "Type," "Insert Special Character" and "Auto Page Number" (or "Current Page Number", depending on your version of InDesign).
Create a text box in the body of your book, copy the text of your book, and paste it into the text box.
Highlight the text. Do this for all your type by hitting Ctrl + A, and select your font style and size in the toolbar at the top of the program.
On your second page, select the Type Tool again and select your font preferences.
Select your line height and kerning from the toolbar as well.
Fill your page with text by pasting it in.
Select the small red plus sign at the bottom corner of your box. Click on it. This will pick up your type and click on subsequent pages. Create a new box on your subsequent pages until you've used up all of your content.
Export your ebook by navigating to "File," then "Export." Select PDF as your setting and upload your ebook.
