How to Cite an Online Video Interview in MLA Style

The visual is veracity, and no medium is more suited to the truths of image than video footage. Whereas access to this type of media was once difficult to obtain, the Internet now brings video sound and image to you immediately and, on your part, effortlessly. If you use video interviews in your research or study and you have accessed one or more of those interviews via the Internet, you'll want to properly cite and document that source. The Modern Language Association of America, or MLA, has its own style for citing online videos.

Instructions

    • 1

Write the name of the person interviewed. Place the last name first and the first name after it, separating them by a comma. Place a period after the first name. For example, write "Donnell, Devin."

    • 2

Write the words "Interview by," followed by the first and last name of the interviewer and a period. For example, write "Donnell, Devin. Interview by Lucy Nice."

    • 3

Write the title of the website, followed by a period. For example, write "Donnell, Devin. Interview by Lucy Nice. Pink Bathroom Tiles." Italicize the name of the website in an actual MLA citation.

    • 4

Write the name of the publisher of the website, followed by a comma. Write "N.p." if no publisher is available. For example, write "Donnell, Devin. Interview by Lucy Nice. Pink Bathroom Tiles. Pink Bathroom Tiles Archive."

    • 5

Write the date of publication of your source, followed by a period. If no date is available, write "n.d." For example, no date is available for your source. Write "Donnell, Devin. Interview by Lucy Nice. Pink Bathroom Tiles. Pink Bathroom Tiles Archive, n.d."

    • 6

Write the word "Web," followed by a period to indicate the medium of your cited source. For example, write "Donnell, Devin. Interview by Lucy Nice. Pink Bathroom Tiles. Pink Bathroom Tiles Archive, n.d. Web."

    • 7

Write the day, month and year of the date you accessed the source followed by a period. For example, write "Donnell, Devin. Interview by Lucy Nice. Pink Bathroom Tiles. Pink Bathroom Tiles Archive, n.d. Web. 17 Sept. 2007."

    • 8

Write the name of the person interviewed in parentheses for an in-text parenthetical citation in MLA style of your online video interview source. For example, "A lyricism as driven as it is 'contorted' (Donnell)."
