How to Cite Meeting Minutes in APA Style

People keep diaries; corporations keep minutes. Meeting minutes are a written or digital record of the events that take place during that meeting. Attendance; motions advanced and discussed; proposals presented and debated; votes held and registered -- all these may be part of a meeting's minutes. If you're a scholar of corporate or organizational law, you may find meeting minutes a rich source of material for your studies. You'll also want to correctly document the minutes you use as sources. The American Psychological Association offers guidelines in the citing of meeting minutes according to APA style.

Instructions

    • 1

Write the corporation name (or the last name and first initial of the recording secretary, if known) followed by a period. For example, write "Constar Corporation."

    • 2

Write the year and month in which the minutes were recorded separated by a comma, within parentheses and followed by a period. For example write "Constar Corporation. (2011, April)."

    • 3

Write the title of the meeting followed by a period. For example write "Constar Corporation. (2011, April). Constar Corporation Executive Board Meeting 2011." Italicize the meeting title in an actual APA citation.

    • 4

Write the words "Meeting Minutes" within brackets and followed by a period to indicate the type of source. For example write "Constar Corporation. (2011, April). Constar Corporation Executive Board Meeting 2011. [Meeting Minutes]." Brackets indicate "nonroutine information" according to the APA.

    • 5

Write the words "Retrieved from" and the URL at which you accessed the minutes. For example write "Constar Corporation. (2011, April). Constar Corporation Executive Board Meeting 2011. [Meeting Minutes]. Retrieved from http://constar.com/archives/minutes/."

    • 6
