What is a quarry?

A quarry is a type of open-pit mine from which rocks or minerals are extracted. Quarries are typically used to extract building materials such as limestone, sandstone, granite, and marble. However, they can also be used to extract other materials such as sand, gravel, and clay.

The process of quarrying involves removing the overburden (soil and other loose material) that covers the rock or mineral deposit. This is typically done using heavy machinery such as bulldozers and excavators. Once the overburden has been removed, the rock or mineral can be extracted. This can be done using a variety of methods, including drilling and blasting, ripping, and cutting.

The extracted rock or mineral is then transported to a processing facility where it is crushed and screened to the desired size. It may also be further processed to remove impurities or to create specific products. Quarries can be a significant source of dust, noise, and visual pollution. Therefore, they are often subject to environmental regulations.
