What is blue exorcist?

Blue Exorcist (Japanese: 青の祓魔師, Hepburn: Ao no Ekusoshisuto), also known as Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga (Japanese: 青の祓魔師 京都不浄王篇, Hepburn: Ao no Ekusoshisuto Kyōto Fujō Ō-hen), is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kazue Kato. It has been serialized in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Jump SQ. since April 2009, with its chapters collected in thirty-one tankōbon volumes as of August 2023.

The story follows Rin Okumura, a teenager who discovers he is the son of Satan and becomes an Exorcist to protect the human world from demons. He enrolls at True Cross Academy, a school for Exorcists, and joins a group of fellow students who help him in his fight against evil.

The manga has been adapted into an anime television series, an animated film, and several video games. The first season of the anime television series aired in Japan from April to October 2011. The second season, titled Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga, aired from January to March 2017. The animated film, titled Blue Exorcist: The Movie, was released in Japan in December 2012.

Blue Exorcist has received praise for its action sequences, character development, and artwork. It has been commercially successful, with over 25 million copies of the manga sold worldwide.
