How to Assemble a Wheel and Axle

A wheel and axle configuration is a circular disc that sits on an axle and turns around it. Creating a wheel and axle can be made from the simplest of things, such as a spool of thread and a pencil, to more complex components, such as the wheels of a car and the axle it sits on. For the purpose of this tutorial, a simple wheel and axle made from wood will be used.

Things You'll Need

• Circular wooden rod
• Wooden disc
• Glue
• Drill
• Hammer (Optional)

     Use a drill to cut a hole in the wooden disc to the exact same diameter as the circular wooden rod.

     Apply glue to the inside of the hole.

   • 3

     Insert the wooden rod inside the hole. You may need a hammer to put it in. The rod is the axle, and the disc is the wheel. Ensure that the disc cannot move around the axle.
