How to Make a Child Sized Doll

Building a life-sized doll can be an interesting project for your to work on with your kids. Children enjoy creating, painting and building. Nurturing these talents while also helping them to build their own doll can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Supervise your child or have her invite some of her friends over and they can work on it together.

Instructions

      Shape the body of your doll using chicken wire. Cut a 2-by-2-foot square of chicken wire with wire cutters and wrap it around to shape the head. cut four 3-foot-by-6-inch strips for the arms and legs, and a 3-by-3-foot square for the torso. Wrap the chicken wire and shape it to form the different body parts. Connect each part to its proper place by wrapping the loose wires on each part together. This will be the frame for your doll.

      Fill a container 1/4 full with plaster of Paris and 1/4 with warm water. Mix the mixture together until it is a thick goop. Tear strips of newspaper about 4 inches long and dip them into the plaster. Lay them one after another, overlapping, onto the doll frame. Do one side and let it dry. Turn the doll over and do the other side. Once both sides have dried, apply one more layer of paper mache to both sides. Let dry.

      Sand any bumps or rough areas lightly with sandpaper to make the surface as smooth as possible using sandpaper.

      Paint the body of your doll using acrylic paint mixed to match the desired skin color. Let it dry. Paint on the eyes, ears, and mouth. Let it dry.

      Apply glue to the inside of a wig using a glue gun. Stick the wig onto the head and let the glue dry.

      Place children's clothing onto the doll.
