Why are pop tarts called tarts?

Pop-Tarts are called "tarts" because they resemble the pastry crust of a traditional tart.

* Traditional tarts are typically made with a pastry crust filled with fruit, custard, or other sweet or savory fillings.

* Pop-Tarts also have a pastry crust, but it's filled with a sweet, fruit-flavored filling and covered with frosting.

While Pop-Tarts are not technically tarts in the traditional sense, their pastry crust and sweet fillings are reminiscent of them, thus earning them the name "Pop-Tarts".
