How to Design Your Own Hip Hop Logo

A great Hip Hop logo will act as a visual representation of your band and its mission or purpose. Many bands overlook how important a logo is to the marketing and growth of the band. The ability to sell your band does not only rest on the music but on the professional image you portray. The logo is the potential fan's first impression of your Hip Hop group.

Articulate the message you want the logo to convey. For your Hip Hop group, you want the logo to feature the band name prominently with a supporting image to brand the name. Write a mission statement for the group and try to stick as close to that mission with the design of the logo. For instance, if your Hip Hop group wants to raise awareness for poverty and social injustice, your mission statement could be, "The music will move people to change." Brainstorm ways an image or stylized lettering can signify change.

Research logos of other bands in the Hip Hop industry. Typically, you will find flashy graphics and colorful lettering. With the font, it is best to consider graffiti lettering for your logo. The supporting picture should be incorporated into, behind or next to the lettering. Make sure the picture represents your band's mission statement.

Design a clean logo. Remember, your logo will be on your CD, posters, stickers, business cards and banners. The logo should be simple enough to be easy to read in small print and large banners. Photographs do not typically work with logos because they become blurred on business cards. The picture should be an icon, a small image to represent your band.

Stay away from stock pictures for your logo. It should be designed by a professional artist or by hand. If you use clip art, or images from a Google search, chances are there is another band with the same image. You want your logo to be unique and personal.
