How to Find the Length of a Roll of Paper

It is possible to buy a wide variety of paper in large rolls. These rolls will allow you to store them without the fear of the paper becoming wrinkled or torn. Typically when you buy the paper there will be a length of how much paper you are purchasing. However, after a few uses you may have no clue how much paper you have left. Luckily there is a way to determine just how much paper there is on the roll.

Instructions

    • 1

Weigh the roll of paper on a scale. Write down the weight of the roll in pounds.

    • 2

Find the basic size of the paper. This is usually on the label (such as 17x22or 16x20).

    • 3

Find for the weight (or thickness) of the paper. All paper has a specific weight. This is not how much the paper weighs but is a way to describe the thickness of the paper. Again the paper weight will be on the label.

    • 4

Measure the width of the paper.

    • 5

      Set up this equation:
(Roll weight x (Basic Paper size)) x 500/ (Paper Weight x Roll Width) x12 = Linear Feet

If your roll weight was 60 pounds, the basic paper size was 20x26, the paper weight was 50 and the roll width was 10, the equation would look like this:

      (60 x (20 x 26)) x 500 / (50 x 10) x 12 = 2600 Linear Feet
