How to Find a Song by the Lyrics

If you know a few of the lyrics of any song, a large number of websites could produce the rest of the tune. These sites usually have the lyrics as well as background information on the song, the artists that have performed it, and even the year it was released.

Go to Lyrster.com and type in a few words of the song that you remember in the top search box. Click "Find my Song." Lyrster will produce links to other Internet pages that will show songs that have those words in them. Some similar sites are elyrics.net, songlyrics.com, lyricsmode.com and thesonglyrics.com.

Search through the pages to confirm this is the right song. The lyrics sites will produce any song with that set of lyrics. For example, the phrase "you made me love you" in 2011 produced nearly 100 different songs with that set of lyrics. It also showed multiple artists had done the same song. For that reason, use the most uncommon lyrics you know to narrow the search. A search for "The knotted chords untying, they're heated and they're holy" produced just one song: "Blood of Eden" by Peter Gabriel or Sinead O'Connor.

Confirm the song lyrics through a music site like iTunes. That site has a 90-second preview of songs. Plug the name of the song found on the lyric site into the iTunes store search. Click on the arrow on the right to hear the sample. You must be an iTunes member to download the full song.
