How to Trim Paper Rolls

Paper rolls are an indispensable material for art students, elementary school teachers, crafters, and even butchers. They come in different lengths and sizes, but they are all shaped like a tube because the paper is tightly wound around a roll. People buy paper rolls when they need a lot of paper for a project or business. You can't start your project though until you have trimmed your desired amount of paper off of the roll.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the paper roll. If it is taped shut, unhinge the tape and unroll the paper. Be careful when opening a paper roll that is sealed with an adhesive. You don't want to create too big of an unruly rip as you might not be able to use that portion of the paper.

    • 2

Measure out with a ruler or tape measure exactly how much paper to trim.

    • 3

Mark your desired length of paper with a pencil. Draw a straight line using a ruler or the edge of a book.

    • 4

Cut the amount of paper you need using scissors. Use a box cutter to speed up the process if you have to cut a lot of paper.
