How to Make a Travel Mug

Making your own personalized travel mug can be a fun arts and crafts exercise. Designed with the "on-the-go" crowd in mind, travel mugs are thick, insulated cups often made of plastic. The tightly sealed lid prevents spills in transit, and the thick insulation keeps your warm drinks from losing heat. Not only do they regulate the drink's temperature, but they also are environmentally friendly, as they curb waste of disposable cups.

Search zazzle.com, logotoyou.com, cafepress.com, or customlink.com, which all provide templates for travel mug design.

With cafepress.com, push the "Make T-Shirts and More" button at the top of the page. If you scroll down the page, you will see a "Ceramic Travel Mug" tab, which will give you the option of creating your own travel mug. Design your mug here. Select an image and add text. You can also change colors, crop, resize, rotate, or alter the design. You can save the progress on your design and return later.

At zazzle.com, click on the "Create" tab. Next, press the "Travel Mug," then the "Create a Mug" tab, and finally the "Customize It" tab. You will need to "Add to Cart" and checkout, since you cannot save your design.

Complete your checkout. Zazzle.com and cafepress.com charge around $20.99, while orientaltrading.com charges $15 for a set of six. The mug will be sent to your home in 6-7 business days.

If you choose to take a more hands-on, cost-efficient approach, purchase a blank travel mug at any grocery store, coffee shop, or kitchen accessories store. You can decorate your new travel mug yourself.

Design it yourself. Paint pens, sequins, and glued-on printouts are all options for crafting a cup that is both distinctive but also functional. Paint an image or create a collage. Or you can use Microsoft Word, Paintshop, or another computer program to design your mug. If using paper, slide the finished design in behind the clear outer plastic covering of the mug.
