Instructions

  1. Cleaning Up Line Art with Adobe Photoshop

    • 1

Open Adobe Photoshop. Click "File," "Import" then "WIA Support." Select your scanner. Change your scanner's settings to "300 DPI" (Dots Per Inch) or higher if available. Then set the color mode to "line art." If "line art" mode is not available, set to "grayscale."

    • 2

Place your line art image on your scanner and click "Scan" or similar wording. Click "Image," "Adjustments" then "Auto Levels" to make your first adjustment.

    • 3

Click "Image," "Adjustments" then "Brightness/Contrast." Adjust "Brightness" to value between 35 and 40. Adjust "Contrast" to a value between 21 and 25. Click "OK" when finish.

    • 4

Click "View," "Zoom In" to see the line art image closer. Next, click on the "eraser" icon on the main toolbar on the left of your screen. Set the "Mode" to "Brush" and change the value to "13." Use the eraser to clean up any fingerprints, smudges or other spots on the line art image.

    • 5

Click "File" then "Save As" once you are done cleaning up the line art image. Navigate to the directory you want to save the image in then enter a name in the "File name:" box and click "Save" to save the image.

Cleaning Up Line Up By Hand

    • 6

Wipe slowly around the edges of your line art image with a lint-free cloth. Do not touch the surface of the paper with your palms or arms.

    • 7

Mold your kneadable eraser into a straight line comfortable enough for you to hold in hand. Make the eraser sort of thick.

    • 8

Place two sheets of card stock on any blank area of your line art image. With your eraser in hand, start removing any fingerprints and marks from the image. Move the card stock around the image as you erase so you can rest your palm on the paper instead of on your image. Be careful not to smear any of your line art.

    • 9

Grab the end of your image with a clean towel and shake up and down to remove any debris remaining on the paper.

    • 10

Repeat Steps 3 & 4 until you are satisfied with the clean up job.
