Use the space bar until your ASCII symbols line up. This is the simplest method for lining artwork up. You can use the space bar, or even the "Tab" key works well for creating white space around your image. But it does not work well for lining up internal characters.
Use the lower ASCII symbols to create outlines or tops of lower lines. These symbols are typically underscores, periods and commas. The period works best when simply trying to line up an image, and not create variable lines. The period also works well for shading too.
Use middle ASCII characters to space characters without interfering upper or lower lines. The standard ASCII symbols that provide good middle space are the hyphen, equals and plus sign. These symbols will draw more attention, and create lines, unlike symbols such as the period.
Use the upper ASCII symbols to create space, and tops for higher lines. The apostrophe, quotation and carrot symbols are the most commonly used upper ASCII marks.
