How to Make Your Own Scented Inks for Card Making

Make a set of beautiful cards for someone special with just a hint of something extra inside. Add a personal, favorite fragrance to note cards by using scented inks. Scented inks are available through retail. However, they do not have the potency or longevity of homemade scented inks made with essential oils. Scented inks add fragrance to any writing experience. Correspondence with a favorite scent is a pleasure to receive. They emit a subtle scent when the recipient opens them.

Instructions

    • 1

Experiment with a few favorite scents. The easiest way to make scented inks is to use essential oils (purchased online or at a local health food store). The range of scents is almost limitless. Try sniffing store testers to determine, which scents appeal most. Spend time discovering each essential oil's property before making a final selection.

    • 2

Choose an essential oil for its healing properties or personal favorites of the recipient. For example, lavender and geranium tend to be calming, while lemon and citrus tend to have somewhat of a pick-me-up effect. Some incredible scents may be a surprise.

    • 3

Purchase a bottle of indelible ink for drawing pen found at an art or craft store. A two-ounce bottle should be enough for a single scent. Buy several and produce a variety of scents for personal use or send them as gifts.

    • 4

Add the scent you have chosen by using an eyedropper. Slowly drop about one hundred drops of oil into a two-ounce bottle of ink. Close the bottle and gently shake it in an up and down motion to incorporate the ink and essential oil blend. Mix, thoroughly. Permanent ink will stain. Use newspaper or paper towels to protect work surfaces.

    • 5

Fill the pen reservoir carefully with scented ink per manufacture instructions. The ink is ready to use.
