Instructions

    • 1

Buy a spiral notebook that appeals to you, either a small one that fits in your pocket or a standard-sized school notebook with more space to write inside and decorate on the outside.

    • 2

Decorate the outside and inside covers of your journal to fit your personality. Write your name on the front with a fancy letter stencil, glue on colorful beads or glitter, paint original artwork or glue letters and pictures cut from magazines. Use a theme such as horses, video games or your favorite cartoon shows. Make the cover of your journal express something about your personality.

    • 3

Label each entry in your journal with the date and write about what you experienced, thought and felt that day. Use writing prompts to help you develop each entry. For instance, ask yourself what about the day made you happy or write about things you like or don't like. Use a light conversational style, talking to your journal as a trusted friend.

    • 4

Decorate your entries with star or smiley face stickers to indicate those entries that are special, describing particularly happy or unusual events. Draw pictures or cut pictures from magazines that you like or that go with what you're writing about. Glue or tape ticket stubs, recital programs and photos of events you want to remember in your journal.
