How to Build Metal Bending Fixtures

You can build a metal bending fixture from items you most likely already have in your workshop. You can use this type of fixture to bend thin metal strips and also malleable pipes, tubes and wire. It uses leverage created by metal pegs and pressure applied by hand to bend the metal into the desired shape. This is the same principle as industrial metal bending fixtures, or wire bending jigs designed for your home workshop.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Place the board horizontally and drill two 1/2-inch holes at least 2 inches from the end of the board. The holes should be drilled side by side, and no farther than 1 inch apart. Measure 2 inches down from these holes and drill two 1-inch holes. Measure 2 inches down and drill two 1 1/2-inch holes.

    • 2

Insert the bolts into the pre-drilled holes. Tighten the bolts to a depth of at least 1 inch deep to secure them. The farther the better.

    • 3

Clamp the wooden base to an anchored table or bolt it to the floor before use.

    • 4

Weave the metal to be bent in between the bolts and use the leverage to bend the metal.
