How to Build a Box With Fabricated Metal
Fabricated metals are pieces of metal, usually structural steel and sheet metal, that have been cut, bent and assembled through an industrial or sculptural process. Cutters saw, chisel or laser the steel into the desired shape. The worker or artist then bends the metal into a 3-dimensional form by hammering. The pieces of fabricated metal are then assembled through welding, adhesives or riveting. Fabricated metal has seemingly infinite possibilities and is used on a grand scale to make cars, airplanes, appliances, furniture, metal sculptures and much more. Get accustomed to using fabricated metal to construct your very own multi-purpose box made out of sheet metal.

1
Cut the sheet metal into the desired shape with the saw. Smooth all raw edges with sandpaper. For example, to make a simple fabricated metal box, cut two rectangular pieces where the length is exactly twice the height.
-
2
Bend the metal into the shape you want using a hammer. Bend the two rectangles in half by hammering along the center of each. Continue to hammer and bend along the line until the bend is exactly a 90-degree angle.

3
Place the pieces together to make a 3-dimensional square. Place the box on the work table and weld the edges together. Take all necessary precautions and wear goggles and gloves while using a welding torch.

Sandpaper the edges of the box smooth. Decorate your box or hammer it into an entirely new shape.
