How Do I Take Out My Labret?

A labret is a piercing situated just below the center of the lower lip. The most common jewelry for this piercing is a surgical stainless steel labret stud, which unscrews into three pieces. Most labret studs consist of an internally-threaded bar, a flat back that sits inside the lip and a bead that sits on the outside. Internal threading means the back and the bead have the screws, while the bar is hollow and contains the threads.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your healed piercing well with antibacterial soap and warm water. Dry with a clean paper towel.

    • 2

Grip the back of the stud with a clean gauze pad.

    • 3

Twist the front bead to your left until it loosens from the bar. If you find this to be too difficult, you may choose to wear latex gloves to help give you a better grip on the bead.

    • 4

Remove the bar from your lip and, if desired, unscrew the flat back. You can reuse the back and the bead on a shorter bar after your initial piercing has healed and all swelling is gone.

    • 5

Wash all pieces well with antibacterial soap and allow to dry thoroughly before screwing them back together and storing.
