Safety Concerns With Floor Graphics

Installing floor graphics provides additional advertising methods for businesses, but improper installation techniques can cause injuries and potential lawsuits. Placement of floor graphics, following state guidelines and manufacturer instructions, will help you expand your portfolio and keep your clients happy and safe.
  1. Prevention

    • Never install a graphic on a rough flooring surface.

Place floor graphics only on solid surfaces. Cracks, missing grout, uneven floor tiles and other imperfections in flooring may not only cause accidents, but also make installation difficult. Improper installation may cause areas of the floor graphic to become loose from the flooring, causing potential injuries.

    Application

    • Make sure all surfaces are solid.

Apply floor graphics on sealed wood or concrete, marble or ceramic tile or waxed vinyl. Never apply floor graphics where silicone is present.

    Avoid Accidents

    • Vinyl and water can create hazards.

Floor graphics can become slippery if placed near areas that are prone to moisture. Always place the floor graphics away from main entrances. Use anti-slip floor graphics, whenever possible, however laminates may be used to prevent accidents by providing a scuff-resistant surface.

    Air Quality

    • Check the rules in your state before applying floor graphics.

Because floor graphics are applied with adhesives, check the codes in your state for regulations concerning the use of chemicals indoors. Permits must be obtained in some states before certain solutions are applied.

    Solution

    • Always use proper ventilation when applying floor graphics.

To prevent air contamination, apply floor graphics under well-ventilated conditions. Read the manufacture's instructions before applying floor graphics.
