How to Make Your Own Morale Poster

People hang morale posters on the wall to remind them to face a situation with courage, humor or with new eyes. These posters usually include inspirational words and beautiful photos of nature of people engaged in an activity appropriate for the theme of the poster. You can find these posters at local merchants in your area. However, you also have the option of making one (or several) if there is a theme you want to explore or you want to utilize some of your own creative work in the piece.

Instructions

    • 1

Contact a printer to get information about pricing and layout advice. Full-sized full-color posters sometimes cost quite a bit to print. Shopping around will allow you to compare prices, which includes learning the prices on different poster sizes. Deciding which size you'll go with could impact your design decisions.

    • 2

Decide on a theme for your poster. This helps you narrow down the pictorial and textual materials you'll use when creating your poster.

    • 3

Create a file folder on your computer to store all the digital files associated with this project. Store all your work-related items in this folder.

    • 4

Collect sayings for the poster. Include in this collection quotes from famous people, proverbs or make up your own. Write these sayings in a word processing document and store it in your file folder.

    • 5

Write an inspirational poem for the poster if you feel it would be more appropriate. Many morale posters begin with an inspirational poem.

    • 6

Search through photos for ones that capture the spirit of what you want to say. Once you have the text for the document collected (or written) you should have an easier time finding an appropriate photograph for the poster. Save the photos you've collected in your file folder.

    • 7

Open your design program and create a file. Many programs of this sort exist on the market, and although there are arguments for all of them, including high-end ones like Adobe InDesign or Corel, it's perfectly OK to use a program like Publisher as well. The best results usually come from using a program with which you have some familiarity.

    • 8

Begin placing your photos and text into the poster document. If you have trouble deciding on the layout, look at other morale posters to give you inspiration. Many have a similar look and layout. As you layout the poster, be sure to select fonts and other decorative elements that support your visual theme.

    • 9

Save the file as a PDF when you've completed the project.

    • 10

Burn the PDF onto a disc and send it to the printer.
