Located in Portland, Maine, the Maine College of Art hosts B.F.A and M.F.A. programs in visual art as well as providing continuing education services for members of the community. Main College of Art also sponsors an art education program geared toward training future educators. M.F.A. alumni are eligible for a number of grants and funding opportunities sponsored through the school.
The Heartwood College of Art offers certificate, Associate, Bachelor and Master's level degree programs. The M.F.A program at Heartwood is geared toward students currently pursuing other career and life obligations. Students are encouraged to develop their own course of study by creating proposals dictating the direction they would like their studies to take for each individual semester. Heartwood also sponsors an art gallery that displays student work.
Bowdoin College's visual art program incorporates a variety of courses including drawing, painting, photography and sculpture. Although Bowdoin's only offers an art history degree, the art department places an emphasis on art production and application.
The University of Southern Maine offers B.F.A. programs in studio art and art education as well as B.A. programs in art history and entrepreneurial studies. Available courses include ceramics, printmaking, photography, sculpture and painting. The art department also manages a campus gallery that displays the work of students on campus as well as faculty and visiting guest artists.
