Ohio Art Schools

The state of Ohio is home to multiple universities and institutions which host intensive visual arts training and degree programs for aspiring artists, educators and historians. Undergraduate art programs expose students to liberal arts curriculum in addition to their artistic studies. M.F.A programs in visual arts are designed to prepare students for professional work through numerous critiques with school faculty, internships, and exhibitions.
  1. Art Academy of Cincinnati

    • The Art Academy of Cincinnati offers undergraduate degrees in art history, printmaking, drawing, illustration, painting, photography, sculpture and visual communication design, as well as a Master of Arts in art education. Students enrolled in the undergraduate program spend the first year of study in identical foundation classes before selecting their desired artistic discipline for further studies. The Art Academy of Cincinnati attempts to prepare students for the world of professional art through an internship program that places students in museums, galleries, design firms and other arts organizations around the country. Prospective applicants must complete an online application and submit a creative portfolio for consideration.

    Bowling Green State University

    • Bowling Green State University offers Bachelor of Fine Art and Master of Fine Art degrees in studio art and art education as well as Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in art history. Students enrolling in the B.F.A and M.F.A. studio art programs select their desired discipline from digital arts, graphic design, three-dimensional studies and two-dimensional studies. Students interested in pursuing art education must choose between two-dimensional and three-dimensional studies as their preferred area of focus. Students in the Bachelor of Arts program enroll in a much broader variety of classes that serve to expose them to many disciplines of art. Prospective students must complete an online application and submit a creative portfolio of their works to the art faculty for consideration.

    Baldwin- Wallace College

    • The Department of Art within Baldwin-Wallace College offers undergraduate degrees in studio arts, art education, art history and digital mediums. Students in each program must complete a prescribed series of classes in addition to the electives specific to their individual major. Within the studio art major, students select a desired artistic medium such as painting or photography and enroll in multiple semesters of classes training them in that particular field. Prospective applicants must apply to Baldwin-Wallace College through the online service or by mail. A creative portfolio is not required for admission.

    Cleveland Institute of Art

    • The Cleveland Institute of Art offers undergraduate degrees in animation, biomedical art, ceramics, drawing, painting, photography and sculpture among others. Students in their first year of studies enroll in a standardized curriculum labeled "Foundation." These classes establish a firm technical base from which the students then pursue their own unique interests and disciplines within the school. Students interested in enrolling must complete an online application and submit a creative portfolio of their works for consideration.

    Columbus College of Art and Design

    • The Columbus College of Art and Design offers undergraduate and Master of Fine Arts degrees in advertising, animation, fashion design, fine arts, illustration, industrial design, interior design, media studies and photography. Students admitted into the undergraduate degree sequence at CCAD enroll in liberal arts courses such as philosophy and creative writing. M.F.A candidates plan and produce multiple works in their chosen medium with the assistance of CCAD faculty. Each M.F.A. candidate is also required to correspond with an off-campus mentor throughout their course of studies. Prospective applicants for either degree program must complete an online application and submit a creative portfolio of their works.
