Tips on Art Booths

If you wish to sell your work at an art show, your show must meet an organizer's specifications, or that particular show has every right to reject your work. Research the type of material the organizer that has piqued your interest is seeking. According to veteran art show displayer Kelly Borsheim, it's best to present your slides to your prospective art show organizer and to ask questions of him about what its specialties and specifications are.
  1. Doing Your Homework

    • Before you consider setting up a display, your preparation process should include some research. Go to an art show. Bring pencil and paper with which you will take notes. Observe the artist's demeanor toward her clients. Does she appear to be friendly yet confident in her product? Appearing overanxious to get someone to buy is not a good practice. Particularly avoid asking, "Can I help you?" too much. The message your customers may extract from that is, "Either buy soon or leave."

    Punctuality

    • The art show will assign you a booth setup time. Arrive on time, or you could forfeit your booth space or fee, according to Inspiri-Art-and-Craft.com. If you have a bona fide excuse for being late, such as a traffic jam or a car breakdown, call the art show provider as soon as you know you are in trouble. He may be sympathetic and give you more time to get to the show site. Also, complete your setup in the time the providers allot you.

    Aesthetics

    • Make sure your booth is appealing to the eye from a distance, without making your display appear gaudy or overdone. Even if so, you can still be creative with the products themselves. You can organize your art according to color. Put all the red products on one side of the table, then the blues, the purples, the whites and the oranges. This helps your customers more easily find the products they wish to buy.

    Booths

    • The standard size of a booth is 10-by-10 feet. Your provider may want your booth or tent to be slightly larger or smaller than that. It's important to research your show organizer's specifications, located in the literature that is part of your application.
