Instructions

  1. Preparation

    • 1

Cut four inches of 28-gauge sterling silver dead soft wire off of the wire spool. File the ends of the four-inch wire to sharp points.

    • 2

Slide the bead or stone on to the middle of the silver wire.

    • 3

Wrap the sterling silver wire around the ring mandrel at the size 7 line mark. Bend the ends of the sterling silver wire around the ring mandrel with your fingers, and cross the wire over each side. This will create the first pass of the sterling silver wire for the silver wire ring.

    • 4

Poke the ends of the sterling silver wire back through the bead or stone holes on both sides. Pull each end of the silver wire out of the other side. You should now have three thicknesses of sterling silver wire going through the bead or stone hole so that you can grasp on to the ends with your fingers. Do not pull the wire ends out quickly or tight. If you encounter difficulties, use the bent needle-nose pliers to pull each end out enough so that you can grasp it with your fingers.

    • 5

Put the sterling silver wire ring back around the ring mandrel at the size 7 line. Pull each side end of the sterling silver wire the rest of the way through the bead or stone hole so that your silver wire ring has a double thickness wire band. Bend the ends of the wire back around to the front of the ring toward the stone or bead.

    • 6

Snip off all but a 1/2-inch section from each end of silver wire that remains.

    • 7

Grasp the end of one of the silver wires with the bent needle-nose pliers and twirl it into a spiral shape all of the way up next to the stone or bead. Using the flat part of the pliers, squeeze the spiral shape flush with the ring band. Repeat on the other side of the ring with the remaining wire.
