How to Paint Your Own Eye Mask

Painting your face brings out the child in every one of us. Whether it's a mythical creature, favorite animal, or a beloved cartoon character, knowing how to paint an eye mask can provide hours of entertainment for the whole family.

A beginner's face painting kit should include a large brush, for filling in large areas of color -- a medium-sized soft bristled brush, for creating bold strokes -- and soft makeup sponges to blend and cover. You will also need a fine-tipped brush to apply precise details.

Instructions

    • 1

Assemble your face painting kit. Face paint can be purchased at any local party shop or superstore. Be sure to only use paint labeled as face or body paint. These are specially formulated for use on the human body.

    • 2

Consider what design you'd like to apply. If you are a beginner, search the Internet for design ideas.

    • 3

Tie back long hair, if necessary, by pulling it into a ponytail.

    • 4

Prepare your skin by cleansing with a wet wipe. This will ensure even paint coverage, and will help prevent acne breakouts. Wet wipes can also be used during painting to remove mistakes. Allow the skin to thoroughly dry, before applying any paint.

Using a lightly moistened makeup sponge, apply the lightest colors of your design around the eye area. Use a blotting motion to achieve even coverage. You need to build your mask from light colors to dark, to achieve a dramatic finish.

Use a fine-tipped paintbrush to carefully apply details to your design. Experiment with different brushes to achieve various effects. It is helpful to have a wide assortment of sponges and brushes available for each different color. If you only have a few brushes, wash them out thoroughly when switching colors, to avoid unintentional mixing.

Washing off the face paint is as simple as washing your face with warm water and gentle soap.
