How to Create Animated Art for Advertising Screens

Advertising screens flash a series of images, in an attempt to convince consumers to purchase a product or remember a brand. Typically, these screens attach to a computer and play a video using the computer's video player or a software specific to the advertising screen. If you wish to create animated artwork to display on your screen, create and combine a series of images using the free drawing program GIMP.

Instructions

  1. Create Images

    • 1

Check the instructions manual of your screen to determine its aspect ratio.

    • 2

Open an image-editing program such as GIMP, Photoshop or CorelDRAW.

    • 3

Click on the "New File" button. In the "Width" and "Height" boxes, enter the appropriate size.

    • 4

Draw the first image of the animated art, using the tools in the Toolbox. Keep the entire image on a single layer.

    • 5

      Press the "New Layer" button.

    • 6

Click on the new layer. Draw the second image, using the tools in the Toolbox.

    • 7

Continue creating new images, with each image on its own layer, until you complete all of the art images you wish to place on your advertising screen.

    • 8

Navigate to the "Layers" window and double-click on "frame 1." After "frame 1," type "(delayms)." Replace "delay" with the desired delay, in milliseconds. For example, if you want the image to stay on screen for five seconds, write "(5000ms)." Repeat the process for each remaining frame.

    • 9

Open the "File" menu and scroll to "Save As." Enter the name "AdScreenAnimation" and select "GIF" as the file-type. Press the "Save" button.
