Beaded Lizard Directions

Beaded lizards never cease to be fun to play with, and can make either a hip gift or a stylish way of decorating your backpack. If they catch on at your school, you can even sell them to your classmates. You have creative control over the particular design and colors of your lizard, and once you master the skill of making one, you can make as many as you want. All you need are beads and wire -- and some concentration.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut your wire to a length of about 3 feet. The wire will have to pass through your beads twice, so make sure that it is the appropriate length.

    • 2

Place one bead at the halfway point on your wire. This is the nose. Now, thread two beads onto one side of the wire, pass the other side of the wire through the two beads and pull both of the wires so that the two beads line up with the first bead at your halfway point.

    • 3

Place one bead, one different-colored bead and a third bead in the same color as the first bead on one of the wires. Thread the other wire through the three beads and line them up with the beads that you lined up in Step 2. Now, make the neck by threading two beads through one of the wires and threading the other wire through the two beads.

    • 4

Make the front legs. Thread six beads through one of the sides of the wire. From the end of the wire, count back three beads and thread your wire through the last three beads. If done correctly, you will have one string going through the "foot" and two strings going through the leg. Repeat this so that both sides of the lizard have a front leg and a foot.

    • 5

Make the body. Thread three beads through one wire and thread the other wire into the three beads, similar to how you threaded in Steps 1 and 2. The next row, string four, using the same method, then four, then three and then two. You can be creative when making the body pattern, using as many colors as you like.

    • 6

Make the back legs the same way that you made the front legs in Step 4.

    • 7

Thread both wires through two beads after making the back legs. The two beads comprise the last part of the body.

    • 8

Make the tail by stringing five beads, one at a time. As you string each bead, pass the ends of the wire through from each side. After stringing the final bead, pass the wire through a smaller bead to "plug" the hole. Alternatively, twist the wires together after threading the fifth bead to end the tail.
