The popularity of the tie-dyed T-shirt will come and go but it is always fun to make. The process is simple requiring buckets of premixed dye, T-shirts and rubber bands. With moderate supervision, they are easy enough for a child to do at a birthday party or children's church event, since there is no pattern involved and each shirt will come out unique.
Though similar to tie-dye, this method is much cleaner, faster and easier to do. This method uses a quick drying spray on fabric paint and a hand wrinkled t-shirt. The paint is a child friendly spray can that is sold in a variety of colors including pastels and neons.
Beddazzle is actually a name brand for a tool that easily adds bling to your T. Needing no glue or sewing, the Bedazzler attaches decorative rhinestones and studs to clothing much like a stapler to paper. Create a simple monogram or cover the entire T, using the ample supply of jewels and plugs sold in a variety of packaging sizes and selections.
Pre-made stencils of various shapes, styles and designs can be purchased, but making your own can be fun too using vellum paper and a craft knife. This method is not recommended for printing on more than 10 T's with one color since the stencil will wear out and it will be difficult to prevent paint bleeding on the shirt under the stencil.
Much like stencils, but more sophisticated and labor intensive, is the fabric printing method known as silk screen. This involves chemicals and photo emulsion equipment but does allow for unlimited numbers of printing. Though you can purchase entire DIY kits, you can choose just to do the design work by hand sketching or using computer graphics, then submit the work to a silk screening professional.
For one-of-a-kind art, draw and paint an original image on a T-shirt using permanent acrylic-based fabric paint. These fabric acrylics are sold at fabric and hobby store and offer a wide variety of colors that can be blended or diluted to support the style of design desired.
