How to Create Your Own Fake Magazine for Free

Magazine covers attract attention. Creating a fake magazine cover doesn't have to be expensive or complicated. By using free software, creating a fake magazine cover can be cost effective. Creating a magazine cover can be as simple as adding an image and typing a title or adding multiple images and multiple titles for a more sophisticated look. Students can create a magazine cover as a class project or to advertise an upcoming school function. Organizations and businesses may use magazine covers to advertise their services or products.

      Open the fake magazine creator software by double-clicking on the icon. Click the "File" tab and select "New." Choose the "Letter (Portrait) 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches" page size. A new workspace will appear. Change the margin sizes by clicking on the "File" tab and selecting "Page Layout." Change all the margins to zero. Some programs may not have pre-set margins and will not need any changes in the page layout.

      Add a background color to the workspace. Click on the "Paint Bucket" tool in the "Tool Box" window. This can be identified as a paint bucket icon. A pop-up will appear. Select a color for the background. Click "OK" once a color has been chosen. Click the "Paint Bucket" onto the workspace to fill the background. Some programs require a shape to fill in a background. Click on the "Shapes" tool and select the "Rectangle." Draw a rectangle around the workspace using the mouse. Double-click the mouse inside the drawn rectangle to choose a background color. A pop-up will appear. Select the desired background color from the "Color" selection under the "Fill" tab. Click "OK." The color will automatically appear within the drawn rectangle. Some programs contain "Tool Box" windows where all the commands used to create a project are located.

      Add images to the magazine cover. Click the "File" tab and select "Open." A pop-up will appear. Choose the desired image file. Click "Open." Adjust the image to fit the magazine cover by dragging the guidelines smaller or larger. For some programs adding an image will be under the "Insert" tab. Select "Picture" from the drop-down menu and choose "From File." A pop-up will appear. Choose the image file. Repeat the step to add more images to the magazine cover.

      Add text to the magazine cover to add titles. Click on the "Font" tool in the "Tool Box." Select the font, font size and font color. Type the text. Creating a text box to type tiles may be required in some programs. Click the "Insert" tab and select "Text Box." Draw the text box onto the workspace. Click inside the text box to choose the font, font size and font color. Type the text inside the text box. Repeat this step to add more titles or text boxes.

      Save the file when the magazine cover is finished. Click on the "File" tab and select "Save As." A pop-up will appear. Name the file and click "Save."

      Print the magazine cover onto the brochure paper. Click the "File" tab and select "Print." Choose the printer associated with the computer if more than one printer is available.
