Owl Projects for Children

Choosing fun owl crafts for children can seem overwhelming when you look at how many ideas there are to select from. The Internet, for instance, is full of creative ideas. Also, consider checking your local library for a book or two on creative owl crafts. Decide how much time and money you want to invest in your project. Most projects require the purchase of just a few items, which can usually be found around the house. Visit your local craft store for anything else you may need.
  1. Paper Plate Owl

    • Paper plates can be used for much more than just holding food.

You will need scissors, glue, crayons or markers, googly eyes and three paper plates. Take your first paper plate and fold the middle third of the plate downward and glue. You will have to make two slits or tears so that when the middle is folded down you will have two points on each side. These are the owl's tufts or "ears." Glue the googly eyes onto the folded section. Glue the bottom edge of the plate to the top of another plate to make the body. Cut the third paper plate in half and glue it to each side of the body to represent the wings. Use markers or crayons to draw the details, such as feathers and beak.

    Fun Foam Owl

    • Use multiple colors for your owl to make it stand out.

For this fun project, you will need scissors, glue, pencil, backing board and different colored foam shapes. Use your pencil to draw your owl outline on the backing board. Decide what shapes you want to use before you begin gluing anything. Consider using triangles for feathers and circles for the eyes. Start gluing the shapes from the bottom up to convey the effect of layered feathers. Use a triangle for the beak.

    Paper Bag Owl

    • You will need a brown paper bag, scissors, glue, crayons or markers and construction paper. Fold your bag flat. You will notice that the bottom of the bag sits flush with one side of the bag. This will be the owl's face. Draw and cut out two wings, a beak and feet on your construction paper. For the eye you can choose between drawing them or gluing googly eyes. Glue to wings and beak to the body of the owl. Then use your crayons or markers to finish the final details of the owl.

    Owl Mural

    • If your hole punch allows it, punch colors of various sizes for contrast.

You will need a book with pictures of owls, pencil, white paper, colored construction paper, glue and a craft circle punch. Pick a picture of an owl from the book. Use your pencil to draw the outline of the owl onto the white paper. Punch out a variety of different colors from your construction paper. If your hole punch adjusts to different hole sizes, punch colors in different sizes. Begin gluing your colored circles onto the outline to create your owl. When it dries, the picture can be framed and hung on your wall.
