How to Airbrush With Torn Metal Stencils

A torn metal airbrush paint job can give a motorcycle, car or other object a hard edgy look. Airbrushing is a technique that involves using an airbrushing device that sprays the paint onto the object, which is outlined with a stencil. When the paint is airbrushed onto the object, only the part that the stencil reveals will be painted. If you have a torn metal stencil to airbrush, perform the airbrushing in layers so you can achieve the various colors that a torn image requires.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the transfer tape over the object to be airbrushed. Draw the torn metal image into the transfer tape to become the torn metal stencil.

    • 2

Remove the transfer tape and lay it flat on a working surface. Use a sharp blade to cut out the torn metal stencil where you want the airbrush to paint. Reserve the pieces you cut out to cover them back up later.

    • 3

Prepare the paints you want to use for the torn metal airbrush job. To achieve the torn look, you will use at least two colors of airbrush paint to create a shadowing effect. For a torn metal look, use metallic colors, such as silver or gun metal.

    • 4

Cover parts of the stencil back up, leaving only the area you want to airbrush exposed. Place it back onto the object and paint it with the airbrush. When you are done with that portion of the stencil, cover it and move on to the next part in the torn stencil. Airbrush the next part with the next airbrush color.

    • 5

Remove the stencil completely and look at the airbrush job.
