Research the kinds of equipment you need for making jewelry with a blowpipe.
Make or acquire a blowpipe and a bellows. If you choose not to use a bellows, you will have a more difficult time keeping a steady flow of heat on the jewelry item. Purchase the kind of metal you want to use for making the jewelry item, plus the solder, flux and stones to set in to the jewelry, if desired.
Create a dirt or concrete pit in a safe area that can withstand high heat. Make sure you are following local safety ordinances, if any exist.
Acquire coal for the heat pit. Set up a work table nearby to work on the jewelry item. Make sure to have a bucket of water near the table for cooling hot metal items, as needed.
Design the jewelry item you want to make in advance. Make sure to have enough of the kind of metal available to make the item. If you need to solder more than one part of the item, you will want to consider purchasing pickling acid and a used crock pot to heat the pickling acid to clean off the metal after each solder.
Work on the basic jewelry fabrication techniques of the jewelry item by cutting out the main shape of the body of the jewelry. Cut out any additional metal components from the sheet metal that you need to adhere to the item later on.
File down sharp edges on the jewelry components. Make sure you file down even ends on jewelry parts that need to be soldered together with the blowpipe. The metal will not adhere to other metal parts if it is not touching metal. Butt the metal joints or ends up snugly that will be soldered, making sure you cannot see a gap or light in between them.
Stoke up the heat pit. Adjust the bellows. Get the blowtorch ready to use for soldering the jewelry joint. Make sure to use safety gloves. Have a copper tongs handy or tempered steel tweezers for handling the jewelry item while soldering it. Do not attempt to handle the hot jewelry metal item with your bare hands.
Apply a small amount of flux and solder to the metal joint area to be soldered. Hold the jewelry item steady with tweezers or tongs in one hand. Pump the bellows and aim the blowpipe flame on the metal area to be soldered. Direct the solder to fill the joint of the jewelry item. When you see the solder running by having a glassy appearance, remove the heat. Cool jewelry item in water bucket.
