Draw or trace all twenty-six letters of the alphabet onto individual A4 pieces of acetate. Scale the letters so that they fill the majority of the A4 sheet. Choose a font or letter design that will be easy to cut out.
Place thick cardboard under your work area. Cut out the parts of the letter that you want to print on the first letter. Repeat this process for the additional twenty-five letters. This creates twenty-six individual letter stencils.
Cut the length of paper that is 208 inches long and 12 inches tall for your alphabet banner.
Make a small mark along the top of the paper every 8 inches with a pencil. This will help to lineup the letter stencils when printing. Place the paper flat on your work surface.
Put the first letter of the alphabet down on top of the left hand end of the paper. Line up the A4 stencil so that the left hand edge of the acetate is in line with the edge of the paper and the right and edge of the stencil is in line with the first pencil mark. The top and bottom of the stencil should line up with the top and bottom of the paper.
Place the screen down on top of the stencil. Use masking tape to cover any areas on the underside of the screen that are not covered by the acetate stencil. Place ink along the top of the screen. Pull the ink down the screen with a squeegee held at a 45-degree angle.
Lift the screen off the paper from left to right. The stencil will come away with the screen. Pull the first letter stencil off the screen.
Place the second letter stencil on the paper. Line up the left hand edge of the stencil with the first pencil mark and the right hand edge with the second pencil mark. Repeat steps 6 and 7 to print the second letter. Repeat this process until you have printed all twenty-six letters on the banner.
Leave the banner to dry. Wash the screen, stencils and squeegee with water. Use a rubber to remove any remaining pencil marks on the alphabet banner.
