How to Develop Your Creative Side

Everyone has a creative side. Some people learn to express it naturally, while other people need time to develop it. It takes time to recognize and nurture your creative side if you haven't already explored it. You may even find that you are creative in a way that you didn't expect. Be patient with yourself, and you will discover the joys of being creative.

Instructions

    • 1

Be yourself. Don't put pressure on yourself to be creative. This creates the opposite effect and will stifle your creativity. If you get stuck with an idea, put it aside and come back to it later. Look at it after doing a different task, as this will help you see it through a different perspective.

    • 2

Don't judge yourself or compare yourself to other people. Trust your ideas and believe in yourself. Express your thoughts in the medium you feel comfortable. There is no right or wrong method of expression. Jot your ideas down on paper, or use a video camera to record them; whichever method you choose, you'll be able to look back over your ideas and draw inspiration from them.

    • 3

Don't concentrate only on art. You don't have to be good at art to be creative. Explore other areas of your life that you feel passionate about. Your creative side can lie in how you deal with people, how you manage your company or even in how you organize your clothes. If you cannot see it in yourself, ask friends and family how they see your creativity.

Train your mind to think creatively. Look at objects of art and explore the emotions they evoke. Start looking at everyday objects and think beyond their utilitarian function. Look at the shape, color, style and texture of objects and think about whether they appeal to you or not.

Persevere, and don't be tempted to give up. Take time to let your creative side develop. Get inspiration from magazines, books and other people's work. Visit an art gallery, or talk to someone who inspires you. Stick with it, and soon you will be in touch with your creative side.
